AMAZING DAYS!!!

I will not spend every article talking about our new building going up, but last week was such a miracle, I must tell you about it. On Thursday morning, there was a concrete slab down, and by Saturday night, there were three stories of building up. It was truly some amazing days. There were friends that came from CA, WI, IN and other churches TN that came to help. There were over 100 men that helped put up the building.

We had ladies of our church that did a great job feeding all the workers three meals a day, and the teenagers of our church helped anyway they could.

There is still a lot more to do, but it was an incredible show of a labor of love to the Lord with everyone working to put up a church building. Come to one of our services or come have fun nailing a nail with us.

CHURCH RAISING TODAY

This article is being written on Tuesday, but by the time you read it, there should be some walls raised at our church. We are having about 100 workers here to have an old-fashioned “church raising.” We have people from California, Indiana, and Wisconsin here helping us to put up this building. We also have some local people who attend other churches that are here helping us raise the walls to the building. If you would like to be a part of something special and spiritual this Easter weekend, why don’t you come out and join us? Everyone is welcome!

If you can’t work, but would like to come by and see what we are doing, or if you would like to donate to a project like this, come on by. There will be a five-story lighthouse going up between the building we have now and the new building we are putting up. In the top of the lighthouse, we will have a flashing or rotating light to remind people of the Light of Jesus that is always shining, trying to guide men, women, boys, and girls in the Way. (John 14:6)

This coming Friday and Saturday, there will be one of the most exciting things taking place at our church. We will be having an old-fashioned church raising. The foundation will be in place along with all the building materials, and lots of laborers. We will all work together and in one day, the building will be up. It will be exciting to watch! We will have food there, music, and a professional camera team to do a time-lapse of the building going up.

If you would like to have a great day serving the Lord, come up and get involved. We have people coming from as far away as Wisconsin, and California. If you can't come work, but would like to donate towards this project, or would just like to come by and watch it go up, that would be great!

GRADUATION FROM LIGHTHOUSE BAPTIST ACADEMY

This week, I would like to honor a very special group of people. This year, we had four students that graduated from the Lighthouse Baptist Academy: Courtney Blackburn, Joey Branton, Jason Gill, and Ray Jeter. All of them are great teenagers that have been through some rough times as young people, but they have kept on going and have overcome the obstacles in their life. I am so pleased with them and think they have turned out great!

All of them spent four years in the Lighthouse Baptist Academy and have done a great job. They have worked hard, made good grades, and have been great examples of what Christian teenagers should be. They love their families, serve God, and have been a real joy with which to work.

In a day in which there are so many young people doing so many weird, wrong, and horrible things, it is great to see some that still want to please their parents and please the Lord. If they continue to do this, they will have a wonderful life!

GREAT CHURCH MEMBERS

I would like to use this week’s article to brag on what I think are some of the greatest church members ever. As most of you know, we are building a new church building. Things are going great with it! One of the biggest reasons why things are going so well is the commitment of the members of our church.

The people of our church have done almost all the work on the building. We have had people in our church do everything except for finishing the concrete and putting in the heating and air units. People in our church have done the excavation, the layout, the framing, the roof, the siding, the electric, and the plumbing. The ladies have also worked hard to supply food for the men while they worked. We are getting ready to start putting up the drywall and the tower that will connect the two buildings.

I thank God for all He has done for us! I also thank Him for the great church members He has added to our church.

GREAT MEMORIES

Twelve years ago, I got my honorable discharge from the Army and came home to my parents house in Iowa. I was a rebel, didn’t want to do God’s will, and was a mess. The church my parents attended was going to have a singing group and a preacher from Hyles-Anderson Bible College to sing and speak. I went to the service, but wasn’t very excited about it. When the ladies started singing about Heaven and our wonderful Saviour, tears came to my eyes, and God touched my heart. When the preacher preached, I knew that God wanted me to preach and to go to Bible college. I ran from God for a couple more weeks and finally surrendered to the Lord. It has been a great twelve years.

This Sunday morning, a singing group and a preacher from that same Bible college will be singing and preaching at our church in the 10:45 a.m. service. I would like to invite you to come, and I believe God would touch your heart, also.

I WOULD RATHER BE A DOORKEEPER

Sometimes people will say to me, “I would not want to be a preacher for anything.” They then tell me, “I would not want to have to be in church all the time, and you can’t have any fun being a preacher!” I am never mad at them, but I do feel sorry for them. I have more fun serving God than I ever did living in the world. Being at church all the time is a great place to be. Listen to what David said in Psalms 84:10, “For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.” Serving God in the House of the Lord is far better than anything the world could ever offer.

IT HAPPENED!!!

I wanted to use this opportunity to tell you about what happened on our seven-year anniversary. It appeared that the weather would be bad since it got cold and snowed on Saturday, but the Lord cleared up the day and it was beautiful. At the end of the day, there were 2,081 people that attended the anniversary services. Because our church will not hold that many people, we had early services, regular services, and afternoon services. We also had services in nursing homes, a rented building, and at the jail. It was an exciting day!

We also broke ground on our new addition to our building. You will be hearing and seeing more about it in the future, but the site plans are approved and we are getting started. Come and see what is God is doing at Lighthouse.

SOULWINNING AND FAMILY CONFERENCE

I would like you to know about an exciting conference that we will be having. Many people talk about loving the souls of men and the family, but not many have the example to show for it. Dr. Bob Gray is an example of both. He pastors a church in Longview, Texas, that averages over 4,500 people in Sunday school every week.

Every Sunday for the last twenty years, he has had at least one new person in church that he has personally led to Christ. He tells about how he didn’t witness to his father-in-law because of fears and let him die and go to Hell. That motivates him to show every person he can how to go to Heaven.

The other major focus of his life is to rear godly children. His four grown children are all faithfully serving God. His two daughters are married to deacons and his two sons are both preachers. No children are perfect, but he has definitely trained them well.

Starting this Sunday through Wednesday, we will be having a Soulwinning and Family conference. Dr. Bob Gray and his two sons will all be preaching. There will be regular services on Sunday, and 7:00 p.m. services on Monday through Wednesday, with one morning service on Tuesday at 10:00.

If you care about the eternal destiny of people’s souls, and if you care about your family, you should be at this conference. It could change your life and your family!

WHY I DO NOT ATTEND THE MOVIES

1. The manager of the theatre never called on me.
2. I did go a few times, but no one spoke to me.
3. Every time I go, they ask me for money -- they mention it even before I get in.
4. Many of the folks who attend do not live up to the moral stan- dards of the films.
5. I went so much as a child I've had all the entertainment I need.
6. The performance lasts too long -- I can't sit still for a couple of hours or longer.
7. I don't always agree with what I see and hear.
8. I don't think that they have very good music.
9. The thermostat is always too high or too low, and the lighting is terrible.
10. The shows are usually in the evenings, and that's the only time I am able to be at home with my family.

As you know, people don’t use these excuses to not go to the movies, but they sure use them for church. Which is more important?

MISSIONS CONFERENCE

Last week we had our Annual Missions Conference, and it was wonderful. We were able to see pictures of the countries where God has called the missionaries to go, and see pictures of some of the people they were going to be able to reach for God. It was very exciting and moving. There are many countries that still don't have a Bible in their own language, and countries that have no one in them preaching the Gospel. Our church gave over $45,000 to missions last year, and we have committed to give $70,000 this year. We are excited about the 60 plus missionary families that we are able to support.

We now support missionaries to Kenya, New Zealand, Costa Rica, Russia, Australia, Mexico, Philippines, Northern Ireland, Nigeria, El Salvador, Korea, Azore Islands, North American Indians, Okinawa, Romania, Canada, Papua New Guinea, Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Nicaragua, England, Guyana, Nambia, Singapore, Uganda, India, Vancouver, Scotland, China, Honduras, Brazil, and Bulgaria. We support more than one missionary family in some countries. We support nine missionaries just to Mexico alone.

I thank God for a church that is interested in seeing everyone saved in our Jerusalem (Columbia), but is also interested in reaching the rest of the world with the Gospel of Christ.

EIGHT INCREDIBLE YEARS

It is hard to believe that it has been eight years since my two-year-old son, pregnant wife, and I traveled from Indiana to Columbia. Growing up, I had never imagined myself being a preacher, and I had never thought I would move back to the town in which I was born. That trip was very eventful, with our car breaking down and my wife having contractions five minutes apart all the way down here.

Just as the trip down here has been incredible, so has the last eight years. The first Sunday, we had four people in attendance, besides my wife, my son and myself. We met in the living room of our duplex we were renting. God has been so good to us in the past eight years, to see our church grow and the people grow in the Lord.

This Sunday, we will celebrate the eight years of our church. We will be having a special anniversary service, open house and homecoming. We would love to have you come visit us this Sunday. Many people have heard about our church, seen our buses, read these articles, but have never been able to visit. This Sunday would be a great day to come. We are having a cookout after church provided by our members, renting a skating rink for all the families on Sunday afternoon, giving away a special anniversary Christian music CD, and many other things. It would honor us if you would come.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

For years, we have had different clubs and classes for the children. We have a children's club that meets on Tuesday night called King's Kids, and another club that meets on Saturday morning called Little Lights Club. Then, we have over thirty different Sunday school classes for children of all ages. We have had church services for children called Junior church, Primary church and Toddler church, where we preach and teach on their level. During the summer, we have special adventure clubs called Baptist Boys Battalion for the boys and Blue Denim and Lace for the girls. I am amazed at how much the children in our church have learned.

With all those children's ministries, we have never had a Vacation Bible School until this year. June 25-29, Lighthouse Baptist Church will be having our first Vacation Bible School. The theme is "The Armor of God", and each night the students will be learning about a different piece of the armor of God. There will be crafts, games, snacks, puppets, songs and Bible lessons and stories. As with all of our children's ministries, they are open to everyone. We will be providing transportation for any children that would like to come. We will be picking up children in Franklin, Lewisburg, Mt. Pleasant, Columbia, and all the areas in between. The Bible school will be every evening from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., so that more of our regular Sunday school teachers will be able to teach. We will be having over thirty different classes, and even an adult class all week on marriage, taught by our assistant pastor, Gregg Nash.

This coming Monday, June 25, will be the start of our Vacation Bible School. This is our first time ever to have Vacation Bible School and we are very excited about it. We have put a lot of time and effort into planning for this very special time for the children. We know the children are going to have a great opportunity to learn so much about the Christian life. The theme for our Bible school is "The Armor Of God." Each night, the children will learn about a different part of the armor and how it is a protection for us.

We will be having over twenty different classes, and even an adult class all week on marriage, taught by our assistant pastor, Gregg Nash.

If you have any questions, or need someone to be picked up for Vacation Bible School, just call.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL AND RADIO STATION

By the time you read this, we will only have one more night of our Vacation Bible School left. At the writing of this article, the Lord has blessed us with 220 people the first night, and over 270 people the second night. We are excited about the week, and the children are loving it. We are expecting over 300 people on Wednesday night, and who knows how many by Friday. We keep track of attendances to organize the classes and departments, but the most important attendance is one. Every person that comes is one person for whom Jesus loves and died. If just one person came and got saved, it would be worth it all. If anyone would like to come the last night, it starts at 5:30 p.m. and ends at 8:00. If anyone needs a ride, just give us a call.

The other thing I wanted to mention in this article is a radio station. We have finished our application for a low power FM radio station. A couple weeks ago, the FCC opened up some frequencies and there was a one week window where we could apply. We are submitting the call letters of W-VOO. There is a beautiful song called the Value of One that would be the theme song and the purpose of the Christian radio station. It will take about $25,000 to get it going, but it is exciting to think about having a local Christian FM radio station. I believe it would do a lot to help change the lives of people for Christ.

SEVEN-YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Almost every week, I hear about someone that reads these articles and appreciates them. I am very glad to hear that. Most of the people that read this article have never been able to attend a service at our church. Many people have their own church and are not able to visit others.

This Sunday, March 12th, we will be having our Seven-Year Anniversary, with an early service that will start at 8:30 a.m. We have an early service so that people can come to our anniversary and still get to their own church. We will also have a 10:45 a.m. service, after which everyone is invited to stay for grilled steaks, fellowship and roller skating for the children. Most people have heard about our church and I would love for you to come and see it for yourself.

LIGHTHOUSE-BAPTIST.NET

I wanted to take this article to inform you about a web site that a lady (Laurie Delk BMDEnterprises.net in our church does for us. It is now and always will be under construction (as we will always be adding to, changin, editing, etc), but it does have a lot of good information on it about our church. The web pages tell about our staff, our missionaries, the history of our church, our new building, and much more. Some of my past articles from the paper are on the web site (sorted by topic) if you wanted to read any of those. Make sure you look at the "Middleton" page. There you will see pictures of my wife's family. She is number eight of fourteen children.

If you have a question about something, feel free to e-mail me. I am very busy, but I will try to answer all the e-mails I get.
