HONOR THY GRANDMOTHERFirst of all, I would like to honor my grandmother because of her sweetness. My grandmother Sue Baker, who lives in Williamsport, is one of the sweetest ladies in the world. She is always kind, always trying to help people, and always living for others. She is fun to be around, and sincerely loves people. We have spent many hours together through the years, and I have never heard her talk bad about anyone. Also, I would like to honor her for her beauty. She keeps herself nice and is, without argument, the prettiest eighty-four-year-old lady I have ever seen. I could say great things about her all day, but I could not quit without honoring her cooking: the homemade rolls, country ham, chocolate meringue pie, and much, much more. Wow, what a great cook! The best thing about my grandmother is that she is saved. We have talked about it, and I know I will get to spend eternity with her in Heaven. Even though she is a good lady, good works do not save. She has trusted Jesus as her way to Heaven. I am so glad for that!
REARING GREAT KIDS!The best way for us to rear good kids is to look at the Expert, which is God. God knows how children should be reared, and He knows how to rear us. We all know they need discipline, attention, and correction, but there is one thing that is often overlooked. King David told God in Psalms 18:35, “...thy gentleness hath made me great.” God had been very gentle with David, very patient with him, and that had made David great. I think that is one of the keys to building greatness. That doesn’t mean be lax with them, and not expect anything from them, but in our dealings with them, the gentleness we show them will be a key ingredient to them becoming great.
FAMILY TIMEI have figured out that I spend between eighty to ninety hours a week working for the church I pastor. It doesn't seem like work, and I enjoy it, because it is helping people. I have six children and a wonderful wife who all need my time, also. I have a date with each of my girls every week. They know what time it is, and they look forward to it. I have individual times set with my boys to do something fun and special with them. My wife and I have a date every Friday night. Thursday night is family night and we do something together as a family. Once in a while something may mess up the schedule. If that happens, we reschedule the other things. Many people say they don't have time to do things like that. It is amazing the time we would have if we turned off the television and made our family an important part of our schedule.
