Lighthouse Baptist Bible Institute
Although almost everyone knows what the purpose of the church is, very few readily understand the purpose of a Bible institute or even the need of one. In the first instance, God commissioned the church, led by a pastor, to reach the lost and then "teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you". We refer to this as fulfilling the great commission.
This is where the church membership originates. however, while this fulfills the great commission, one would naturally wonder, where do the people come from that teach these people who teach these converts? Quite naturally, God chooses them from the congregation. "And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land...". (Ezekiel 22:30, a,b) Jesus also called 12 apostles from among the Jews to represent Him to Israel. "And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto him whom he would: and they came unto him. And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach. (Mark 3:13,14)
Paul likewise told Timothy to follow the same Biblical procedure. "And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also." (II Timothy 2:2) However, the call to serve is the call to prepare. This necessary preparation is as old as man himself. In Romans 5:14c, Adam is referred to as "the figure of him that was to come". In Numbers chapter 1, the call of the Levites was followed by a period of instruction by Moses. In UU Kings 6, we find Elisha building a school for the sons of the prophets so they could prepare for the ministry. In the New Testament, Jesus spent 3 1/2 years training His apostles for His service. Paul likewise received 3 years of intense instruction from Jesus in the Arabian Desert. (Galatians 1:10-18)
In conclusion, we find it is also the church's job to provide for a place and a person or persons to train the leaders who train the followers. For this reason, Pastor Baker raised up the Lighthouse Baptist Bible Institute, in fulfillment of the "second great commission" to teach faithful men and women to "teach others also".
